Art.
It all started when I was about 7. I discovered that I loved reading. Vocabulary. Expanding knowledge through words. I was so eager to learn that instead of math and other subjects. I could not be bothered to write essays and always wanted to learn new words to use.
My parents divorced when I was 2. I lived with my mom & was with my grandparents after school on the weekdays due to her working to put food on the table. I was with my dad and his girlfriend on the weekends. Growing up, I was not able to have much of a childhood due to being with my dad on the weekends. Through physical/emotional trauma, It got me into writing poetry. It helped me to vent and let out what I was holding in. I wrote my ass off in a Goosebumps journal. When that filled up, I found more paper and notebooks to continue.
By the age of 12, I started making poetry into verses that rhymed. I kept pushing myself to get better everyday. Freshman year of high school, I met my best friend Vincent. After talking with him one night playing Madden, I told him what I had been doing with poetry. He told me he and his good friend Josh made music. He spit a verse for me and I was intrigued to hear more. He gave me a beat of Josh's and told me to write a verse. I ended up cracking a bottle open and started to work. He fell asleep and I ended up writing 3 verses. When he woke up it was 6am and I was still up. Excited, I spit my verses to him and he was in shock at the verses and dedication behind it. He decided to take me to Josh and I made my first song, off of a computer mic filtered by a sock.
As time went on, I developed more skill and tried to perfect my craft. My mom helped me develop my artist name Exetera (Etc.) or E, meaning to keep going lyrically. I ended up getting the hookup on recording programs and reached out on MySpace for knowledge on how to use them. I then met my first professional engineer, Jeo. Instead of teaching me, he heard me out and decided he wanted to produce for me.
Ever since the age of 17, I began working with Jeo. Since then, I graduated high school winning the "Most Musically Inclined" award. I’ve released several singles along with my mixtape titled, "The Hallway" and an album titled, “Behind Closed Doors” throwing parties for each. I am also setting to release my new project titled “Connected Disconnection” in November of this year with a listening party to follow. I will also be publishing my first poetry book titled “Destination Nowhere” later this year as well.
I appreciate you stopping by. To Listen, to See, to Feel, to Experience.
I’m only getting started.
